Spontaneity got the best of us this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday as we headed down to California. The kids didn't have any Saturday games and BYU was playing San Diego State so we decided what the hey! Let's go! As we were sitting at Legoland eating lunch, Eric and I looked at each other in amazement that we didn't have a stroller, no diapers, no bottles, no change of clothes, just 4 children who had become much more self-sufficient. What a beautiful place to be! We thoroughly enjoyed our new found freedom by going to the beach, Legoland, and the BYU football game.
We were able to catch the sunset from Carlsbad Beach with the kids just getting out of the ocean. The weather has never been so great.
Boston was content to stay with me on the beach and just observe. He thinks he's going to sink.
We didn't have any legitimate buckets but we made do with these Halloween ones I picked up at Rite Aid. See, no big deal. We just go with the flow.

All these statues are made from Legos. The boys were in awe at the skill it must have taken to build these.
Don't you just love the glasses? 4D show required these. It was so cool how things looked like they were right in front of you. The kids kept grabbing out.
Eric was hoping to get wet here but stayed pretty dry. It was a hot, humid day.

If we could get our hands on one of those costumes, it would probably fit the twins and not be a one-piecer.
It doesn't take much for the twins to scream and holler (in a good way). They made every ride seem like it was the best with their animation and energy.
This is why we come to Legoland - so they can get their driver's licenses and drive on the track.

This was Boston's favorite too. They have a track for 3-5 year olds and then a big kids one so everyone was happy. He did this a couple times. Luckily the lines weren't too long. I kept seeing BYU t-shirts and people that looked like Mormons (you know what I mean) and found out that it was UEA (I think that's what it's called).
This ship is a replica from the early 1800's, a supposed pirate ship. It's in San Diego harbor where lots of other ships and even a huge navy vessel are. San Diego really has so much to offer.
Eric's parents were in town helping Uncle Helmer so we met them at Grandma's Cafe for lunch. They also took the kids to movie Friday night so Eric and I would go out just the two of us.

We ended the trip with the BYU game at Qualcomm Stadium. I think BYU had more fans there than San Diego State. Boston kept asking me if "Bayoo won" and if "it was over" every time anyone cheered. It was even maddening for fans around us. The game turned out to be a great game with BYU winning 38 to 28.
It was hot, hot, hot! Eric created this visor out of a cup holder. Pretty smart. What a fun time we had! Good Times!
Leighton and Jackson were so excited for this project. They prepared a written report and then created a bat habitat to show off their respected work. I was surprised at how opinionated they were in wanting to get things just right. Grandpa Bateman rolled into town just in time to help and I think they were pleased with the result.
Leighton's bat lives in many places but he chose to showcase this one living under a bridge.
Jackson's only lives under cliff crevices so he made a cliff. The little girl to the left of him (I didn't dare post her picture or she might sue) sits by Jackson in the classroom. She told Jackson she would be nice to him if he would keep his desk clean and not do gross things. So... Jackson cleaned up his desk and is trying not to pick his nose (at least in front of her). I guess she's not very nice to Jackson and is a bit of a bully. I tried to have a conversation with her at the fair and she wanted nothing to do with me. In fact, she shooed Jackson away from her because he was getting in her space. I was even intimidated by her. Oh well, Jackson doesn't seem too bothered at this point. She's half his size and most of it just goes over his head.
