The Hottest Month of the Year

and by HOT I don't mean pretty:)

We didn't do any traveling the month of August.  I was still recovering from the 7500+ miles to Washington.  Boston broke out the dress up box and kept himself and his friends entertained.  

Gotta love good ole fashioned creativity.

Kennedy walked into the high school to register for school and got sick to her stomach.  She stresses beyond measure with school work and seminary and cross country and just getting it all done.  I wish it wasn't so but she expects a lot out of herself.  I did manage to get a cute shot of her getting her "official" year book picture taken.

I took the kids individually to school shop and Jackson is the only one I remembered to take a picture with.  He loves his socks and wanted to showcase them for the picture.  Boys and socks are a big deal these days.

The rains have come down and luckily the floods have not been a problem in our area but I know others that can't say the same.  With the rain comes really loud thundering and lightening that feels like it's right outside your door.  It's a big change from Henderson.

The weekend before school started we joined the Davis family at the beach for kayaking, fishing, swimming and eating.  Eric made us dutch oven clam chowder and kielbasi sausage sandwiches on the beach.  He loves to cook for a crowd.

The twins spent more time off the kayak than in it.  The water was pretty rough.  They were attempting to go out and fish SHARK!  Yes, from what I understand, there are small shark beyond the swimming area.  They couldn't even get past the waves to get out far enough so no shark were caught this day.  Thank goodness.

Eric gave it a whirl too.  That kayak proved to be a bit small for him.  He would later come back for the 2 person kayak.  He loves the ocean and feels completely comfortable there.  I like the ocean and am comfortable boogie boarding and frolicking but anything past that and I'm out of there.

The annual back to school appetizer party almost didn't happen but we managed to slip it in.  Every year it rolls around I can't believe it's already rolled around.    I keep it simple with a similar setting and theme.  Why fix something that isn't broken?

I signed up to feed the sister missionaries months ago not realizing it fell on back to school Sunday.  I figured they could join in on the party.  They were thrilled to mix up their regular Sunday fare.  A first for both of them.

The dryer catch that keeps the door closed has broken so I engineered this system - pull the laundry cart close to the door and hope it stays shut.  The part needs to be ordered but I'm dragging my feet.  It's $25 and I am frustrated that it's that expensive.  It's just a tiny piece of plastic.  Highway robbery.

First day of school and Boston is all dressed up, as dressed up as he will get all year.  He's wearing a collared shirt.  My kids don't do any complaining with the picture taking because I've trained them well.  Shut your mouth and no one gets hurt:)  Just kidding, but not really.

These two automatically go into arm around each other mode for picture taking.  They can't stand each other most of the time but I know their true feelings.

Leighton (8th grade) took the attire up a notch with a denim shirt.  He wanted to wear his jogger pants but I said that was a bit much for the first day.  We wouldn't want to over do it:)  He sure cleans up well.

Jackson (also 8th grade) was very cautious shopping - no v necks, no shirts that had a wide opening to expose skin around the neck.  He wanted to avoid athletic wear.  He just wants to be cool like that.

 More of the rain.  Driving in it can be challenging but I managed to take a picture while driving.  Nice.

Boston is playing on a basketball team to keep fit and is the first to volunteer to be "skins."  He really enjoys basketball and I'm glad because baseball lacks in the cardio department.  Baseball is still his first love but college coaches like a kid that can play multiple sports.  Just saying.

Friday night lights.  First Friendswood high school football game didn't disappoint. We won 21-20.

We have fun watching and visiting and running around (Boston).

And I saved the biggest news for last - I have officially switched to Diet Coke.  Diet Pepsi is hard to find on tap here and I think my taste buds are preferring Diet Coke.  I am on the edge of hoarder status with my consumption and inability to take out the trash.  #myvice
